The Rideau Canal was built in the 19th century to allow boats to continue their course on the Ottawa River. Now dotted with 49 locks, most of which are still manually operated, the canal is one of the ways of a 200-kilometre route to Kingston.
Nowadays, this canal is the oldest one that is still in use in North America. Visitors can reach the historical site by foot, by bike, by car or by boat to learn more about this water course that, once winter comes, becomes a magnificent skating path for inhabitants and visitors.
